Convection, the transfer of heat in fluids (gases or liquids), ultimately relies on conduction (the transfer of heat energy through contact) between the molecules composing the fluid. Heat can only be exchanged through a fluid by individual molecules coming into contact and exchanging their heat energy or losing kinetic energy to form heat energy.

The process convection would not be able to happen without a conductor. This is because the heat has to be able to travel through something.

Which process transfers thermal energy by contact?

This proess is called conduction. The other processes are convection and radiation. Convection is the transfer of energy through movement, such as boiling water. Radiation is the transfer of thermal energy through a medium or space, such as the sun heating the earth.

conduction by itself is slower to heat but conduction and convection is faster to heat

What are 3 methods of heat transfer?

Heat (or thermal) energy is kinetic energy due to motion of atoms and molecules. It is energy that is in the process of being transferred from one object to another because of their temperature difference
