Very simply put, the lungs "oxygenate" the blood by allowing the exchange of oxygen (in the air that is inhaled) for carbon dioxide, a waste product in the body that is relased when one exhales. Can't get "Add Link" to work right now, so here is a related article: http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/health-and-human-body/human-body/lungs-article.html
The lungs in the human body make you breathe. You notice when you inhale (breathe in) your chest gets higher? That is your lungs filling up with air, which includes gases like Oxygen and CO2. So, in order to live, you need Oxygen, but not the CO2.
Next your lungs exhale, or breathe out. This releases the CO2 because you have to get rid of it. The Oxygen is then pumped into your blood so you can live.

The lungs have blood circulating through them. As it flows through the tiny blood vessels it is infused with oxygen from the air breathed in. The oxygen is delivered throughout the body and at the same time the old spent gas [carbon di-oxide ] is picked up and taken back to the lungs where it is expelled into the atmosphere and so on.
They help you breath. It takes in oxygen when you inhale, and forces out carbon dioxide when you exhale.
Without the lungs you wouldn't be able to get oxegen or carbon dioxide in your body. That is why the lungs is a very important part of your respitory system.
It helps you breathe and get oxygen.
Help you breath!
Humans do not have lungs, they have gills. Lungs belong on amphibians and reptiles to help them filter the O2 molecule from water.the lungs help you breathe, and they help your heart pump Blood!

how does the lungs help the other systems to keep the body healthy?
They allow oxygen from the air we breath to enter the blood, and they allow carbon dioxide from the blood to leave the body. This occurs in a well controlled manner in health.
