Just to provide some history as to how this all occurred. My mom is from Another Country, her English isn't that good (speaking or writing) and my dad who is American was the major bread earner in the household. He made all of the money, paid all of the bills, and opened multiple lines of credit in her name without her knowledge.

They were living in NC for the majority before he passed away. She found out about the credit cards after having her credit report run when she was trying to get AER for retired military widows. Her credit report was 30 pages long and she really had no idea.

I had to go through and contact each creditor, wrote letters to each one and also to the credit bureaus. Not to mention, my dad's other daughter maxed out one of the credit cards that was in my mom's name. My mom had to file a police report. Now it's been a year and three months later and she's had to retain another attorney.

I'm still helping her to fight these charges as she never used any of the cards and none of the creditors have provided her with any type of validation on how the accounts were opened. Not to mention the largest debt is Bank of America and was opened in 1973 and my mom and dad were not married until 1978. I have sent multiple correspondence to B.O.A. - police report, marriage license, death certificate, etc. Still nothing. Anyone have any experience in credit card fraud/identity theft? Especially being that N.C. is not a community property state?

Contact Verizon and tell them you have noticed some unauthorized charges on your account. If they won't help you, first try to talk to a supervisor. If the supervisor won't help you, contact the credit-card company that you use to pay your Verizon bill and tell them about the fraudulent charges. Credit-card companies have numerous protections against fraudulent charges, so they should help you. Lastly, you may want to check your credit report (you can get free copies from annualcreditreport.com) to see whether anyone has opened fraudulent accounts in your name elsewhere.
