∙ 11y agoMitosis consists of one DNA replication followed by a single division of the nucleus into two identical, diploid daughter nuclei, followed by cytokinesis, forming two identical daughter cells. Meiosis consists of one DNA replication followed by two nuclear divisions, resulting in four nonidentical nuclei and four haploid cells. Also, in prophase I crossing over of the homologous chromosomes occurs, which accounts for the fact that the four daughter cells at the end of meiosis are nonidentical.
