Bladeless LASIK uses a laser instead of a razor blade to make the corneal flap which is the first step in the LASIK procedure. The razor cuts a thin layer of the cornea which is folded back to allow the second laser, and excimer laser, to reshape the eye. In the bladeless variation, there are up to millions of tiny perforations precisely made at an exact depth into the cornea that in combination results in a separation of the outer layer of the cornea.

The bladeless approach uses a more expensive laser than the blade method but it is safer, more precise, and some studies show that the results are even better.

Basically Lasik is the most popular laser eye surgery that can correct or sometimes even cure common refractive errors like Hyperopia (farsightedness) etc. What Lasik does is create a thin flap on the surface of the cornea w/c is then surgically folded to the side to let laser energy reshape the exposed surface of the cornea. After the procedure, the corneal flap is folded back for rapid recovery. If you want a visual on what I just said you can refer to the related link(Lasik Manila, Philippines) I placed below...

LASIK uses one laser to change the shape of the cornea under a flap. This is an excimer laser which stands for excited dimer and is in the ultraviolet range. These lasers were first developed for etching computer chips which they still do as their major application. In the eye the laser there is a front end which is essentially a laser lathe that is programmed to change the shape based on a formula. There are two basic types of excimer lasers, the older ones have a "broad beam" configuration, like the VISX laser. The newer ones such as the Zeiss Mel 80 have a small flying spot which reshapes the eye. Many pulses by these lasers etch the surface of the cut cornea resulting in a new shape to correct vision.

Another class of lasers, the femtosecond laser, such as the Zeiss VisuMax or the Intralase, create the flap mentioned above. This is accomplished by many tiny spots that separate tissue and is an improvement over the alternative step of using a motorized razor blade to cut a flap.

If a laser is used during lasik surgery, it works by reshaping someone's cornea. With an improved shape, their eye can focus light rays on their retina correctly.

With astigmatism and a prescription of -7.25 and -6.75 will lasik work?

This prescription can be treated by many types of lasers and my personal experience is that LASIK can work for this correction. There are other things to consider however including how thick are the corneas, how large are the pupils, how much is the astigmatism, and what is the shape of the corneas to begin with. Only a full eye examination can fully answer this question, but many patients with very strong prescriptions can be successfully corrected by LASIK and regardless of the prescription, it is worth having a competent eye specialist evaluate your situation thoroughly. Many LASIK doctors such as ourselves offer no cost evaluations to help you make this determination.
