out of the 30 teams in the NHL 16 teams enter the Stanley Cup playoffs based on the points they got during the 82 games during the regular season.8 teams are from the western conference and 8 are from the eastern conference.The first round of the playoffs, or Conference Quarterfinals, consists of four match-ups in each conference, based on the seedings (# 1 vs. # 8, # 2 vs. # 7, # 3 vs. # 6, and # 4 vs. # 5).
