Street View in Google Earth 6 and 7:
Drag the orange "pegman" icon from the navigation control (on upper-right corner) onto the map to enter Street View mode. Also if you're looking at ground from low altitude then double-click on a building or ground to enter nearest Street View photo from that location.

Note you must be closer than 500 km (eye altitude level) for the street view "pegman" icon too appear.

They actually took those pictures by driving a truck with a weird many-lensed camera like a huge bug eye down those streets and then joining the images together. Someplace on Google Maps (or maybe in a news article on another website--I forget) there's a page that explains that and shows a picture of the truck. That's why the street views aren't available everywhere yet. You could probably learn more by googling Google Maps Street View.

they drove cars around with cameras on the roof and took very high quality pictures. street view is amazing, thank you google for giving it to us.

Street View provides users 360° horizontal and 290° vertical panoramic street level views within Google Maps and Google Earth.

Google collects these photographs using special cameras and equipment that capture and match images to a specific location using GPS devices. Once the images are captured, they are "sewn" together to create a 360° panorama. Faces and license plates are blurred before the panorama images are served and become viewable online.

Can you view Google Maps history and how long ago?

Google Maps does not provide the historical imagery view feature that is available in Google Earth. To see past imagery you must use Google Earth. See related details in link below.

What is the purpose of Google Earth?

Google Earth is a desktop application that lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean. It also provides a street view with high-resolution photographs to "walk" the streets of cities around the world.

How can I see people on Google Earth?

No. The images in Google Earth were all taken by satellites, so there is not that level of detail.Actually you can you have to go to latitude 45° 7'22.31"N and longitude 123° 6'48.24"W you can't see faces but its pretty clear.Answer #2If you enter 'Street View' in Google Earth or Google Maps then you can see people but the faces should be blurred for privacy reasons. Google uses advanced blurring algorithms to identify faces and blur just the faces (as well as license plates) in the photograph.

How can i see an image of my house using a satellite?

Best bet would be to use Google Maps or Google Earth.Just type in an address from either and it will fly-to that location showing best available aerial or satellite images. With Google Maps you may need to change to the Satellite or Earth View if you're in Map view. Then you can enable Street View to see if high-resolution street-side photographs are available. There are also alternatives to websites like Google Maps and software like Google Earth. See related questions and related links below for alternatives. If you cannot find what you're looking for and want to purchase high resolution images then there are a number of image providers such as those that provide imagery to Google (e.g. DigitalGlobe, GeoEye). Try doing an Internet search for satellite and aerial imagery.
