It actually depends on how large the stone is. This can be answered by having a CT scan once you have been diagnosed with stones. Take it from me, I have had stones for almost 5 years, drink at least 8 bottles of water a day, drink lemon juice (it doesn't have to be straight, I drink lemonade). I have started to take energy pills; these pills pretty much make you urinate more than normal which is what moves the stone out of the kidney and through the ureter. Your doctor may prescribe different medicine to help pass stones. Some may dilate the ureter, some may thin your urine; using many different techniques, you will pass that stone! Although, if the stone is too large to pass on your own (usually larger than 5 mm) you may have to have surgery, like I did. After surgery they put a stent in to pass any gravel they might have missed. Some people may only have one stone in their life, others (such as me) will have them their entire life. One learns to deal with it, yes, with some difficulty at times. You learn the ways of the stone

4 Ways to Get Rid of Kidney Stones

1. All doctors will recommend drinking plenty of water to pass your stones. However, you should know how much and what kind of water. Firstly, you should try to drink at least half your body weight in ounces per day. If you weigh 180 pounds; you should drink 90 ounces of water. Secondly, you should also add a lemon every day to your water. Lemons contain citric acid which has been shown to naturally dissolve calcium.

2. Secondly, you should also be making sure that your diet is rich in fiber. Most Americans eat the wrong kinds of food because of our fast pace lives. You should try to eat foods that are high in dietary fiber and also foods that are high in water soluble fiber (fruits and vegetables). Try to eat fruits and vegetables in their raw state and make sure they are fresh. You will notice a difference in your stool and your health.

3. Though common sense, you should also be exercising. The body works with many systems supporting one whole organism. And for some reason, exercise allows the body to run more effectively and efficiently. You should take your walk or jog tonight and every night.

4. Finally, you should also consider a simple phosphoric acidic remedy. A phosphoric remedy works mainly because it uses a simple beverage with this type of acid and a simple high fiber vegetable. The remedy works because it naturally dissolves the calcium in the kidneys. The acid makes it to the kidneys because the liver plays no role in acid base regulation. Finally, a vegetable puree (made with a blender) is used to pass the dissolved kidney stones out of the body. You can find simple step by step instructions at Cure Kidney Stones.

Kidney stones are hard pieces of mineral deposits that have slowly built over time in the kidneys. When these pieces become dislodged, they travel to the bladder and are often eliminated through urination. However, sometimes these stones are too large to be passed through the ureter to the bladder, or they move very slowly. In either case, kidney stones can cause severe pain and sometimes require medical attention. However, if you are experiencing kidney stones, there are some natural methods that can help.

Drinking more water is often recommended to eliminate kidney stones. Increasing your fluid intake helps to flush out kidney stones, as well it keeps the body and organs hydrated and functioning properly. If you are unsure that you are drinking enough water throughout the day, one way to check is to measure your urine output, which should be around 45 to 50 ounces per day. This is the equivalent of a two liter soda bottle, which can be used to measure your urine output daily.

Avoiding foods that contain oxalates is another way to avoid worsening kidney stones. Foods such as chocolate, beets, strawberries, and nuts contain oxalates and can make kidney stone problems worse. While you do not have to eliminate these types of foods entirely from your diet, it is recommended to cut back on them if you are dealing with kidney stones. As well, large does of vitamin C are actually converted to oxalate, so it is recommended to avoid high dose supplements and instead get your vitamin C from natural foods.

If you are feeling nauseous, it may seem like a good idea to take an antacid to soothe your stomach, however many antacids contain calcium. Calcium is one of the reasons kidney stones develop in the first place, so calcium containing supplements should be avoided. Regarding calcium, it is also a good idea to exercise regularly, as this will help send calcium to your bones while avoiding buildup in the kidneys and conversion to a stone.

Finally, bran flakes and whole wheat bread can be beneficial in avoiding further kidney stone development. Bran flakes help to eliminate oxalate and calcium through urination and Whole wheat bread contains magnesium, which helps in avoiding kidney stone development. Also, vitamins A and B-6 can be beneficial by keeping the urinary tract healthy and lowering the amount of oxalate in the blood.

Dealing With A Kidney Stone?

Kidney stones are painful and affect men and women of all ages. There are things you can do to get rid of kidney stones, and tips on how to tell if you have a kidney stone. The first thing you will notice if you have kidney stones is the pain! The pain is excruciating, and is located in either the right or left side of the abdomen, or in the lower back. As the stone moves through the day, the pain will likely move with it. This is because the stone is being carried by the kidneys through the urinary tract. The stone only has one way to get out of the body and that is through the urethra when you urinate. If the stones are large and cannot be passed, they will need to be broken up by a procedure known as lithotripsy. The stone will be crushed into smaller stones that can be passed when you urinate. Another sign of kidney stones is nausea and sometimes vomiting. The pain from the stones is so intense that it makes people who have them sick. The nausea will usually go away when the pain is relieved. Pain relief can come in the form of an IV medication, or through a pill that is taken. Larger stones will cause more pain, and people will need more medication to be relieved of the pain. Blood in the urine is another sign of kidney stones. It is also a sign of a kidney or urinary tract infection, so if you see blood in the urine, you need to go to the doctor. Women who are pregnant need to seek medical attention if they see blood more so than men. Treatment of kidney stones sometimes means you will just have to be patient and let them pass on their own. This can be painful, but is often the best way to get rid of them. Drinking plenty of water through the day will help to flush out the system. Cranberry juice is also good for getting rid of the bacteria that is in the kidneys and urinary system. If necessary, the doctor may order some type of surgery to remove the stones if there are numerous ones in the body.
