There is a treatment for a bed bug bite that can make it less painful. See a doctor about that.

The "cure" for a bedbug infestation is to have a professional apply appropriate pesticides. Bed bugs are hard to get rid of, and their presence is not related to any kind of filth or messy living conditions.

In most cases it will start to itch soon after the bedbug has completed its meal and left you to crawl back to its hiding place with your blood inside it. If any part of your skin starts to itch early in the morning while you lie in bed or just after getting up, try not to scratch but apply calamine lotion or surgical spirit around the area of the rashes for relief. A further problem is that the bedbug will have injected a coagulant into you before starting its meal and some people get an allergic reaction to this two days or more after being bitten. Again use calamine lotion to relieve the itching if that happens to you. Once you know you have a bedbug problem in or near where you sleep it is also very important to take steps to get rid of all of them, otherwise they will lay more eggs multiply and the problem get worse and worse. It may be necessary to call in professionals to achieve this as bedbugs are notoriously difficult to get rid of by yourself.

WikiAnswers users suggest their remedies:

  • Take a touch of ammonia and place on it. Sounds odd, but this works for several types of bites - bedbugs, jellyfish, and several insect bites.
  • For fast relief from the bites, run the bite under lukewarm running water for approximately a minute; this will minimize the inflammation and take your mind off it.
  • Perhaps you need to get a prescription for an antihistamine.
  • Visit your local pharmacy to obtain a suitable cream that will help reduce the swelling and relieve the itching.

Hoover the bed and leave the quilt off

Just vacuuming the bed will NOT get rid of them, They live IN the bedding. An exterminator is really needed to get rid of the infestation. The bedding should really be removed and destroyed as it is very difficult to completely get rid of an infestation within a mattress and box spring.

For the bites themselves, was with gentle soap and warm water. Pat the skin dry, don't rub. Apply an anti itching medication to control the itching and , as with any wound or insect bite, it time they will go away. If the itching keeps you awake, Benadryl is an antihistamine that can be purchase at any drug store over the counter. It will help with the itching.
