You can thicken runny interior paint as long as it is a latex paint. You can use a thickening agent called cellosize hydroxyethyl cellulose. Do not put more than twenty five percent of this agent into the paint or you will not be able to roll it.

Many light coats is the best way of doing it. It would just run before it dried if you tried one thick coat.

Acrylic paints can be thickened with marble dust and silica sand for texture and there are thickening agents sold commerciallycalled Acrysol GS.

Strange as it may seem, add water little by little whilst stirring, the enamel paint will thicken. Else attapulgite clay's, such as "bestgel" or "viscogel' wil do the trick.

If it is latex paint, you can just add water. You have to mix the paint very WELL. If the paint is oil based, I've used a little gasoline to thin it.
