First, like learning/speaking any language, you must learn vocalbulary and the rules that go along with it. Once the vocalbulary is learned, you then must learn the final, and sometimes most confusing part, the sentence structure. The sentence structure of a language is the order in which words/vocalbulary are placed in sentence. In Hindi, ALL subjects go first, ALL Verbs go at the end of the sentence, and everything else (adjectives, prepositions, etc.) goes in the middle of the sentence.

For example: Main khush hoon= I am happy.

"Main" (pronunced like the month, may) is the Hindi word for "I". Since "I" is the subject of the sentence, it goes first in the sentence. Next is the word "khush" (proncounced koosh), which is the Hindi word for "happy". Since it is an adjective, it goes in the middle of the sentence. Last we have "hoon". "Hoon" is the Hindi word for "am". Since "am" is a verb, it goes at the end of the sentence. This is how Hindi is spoken.

The native language of Bangladesh is Bangla, also known as Bengali. There are a few different dialects of it, depending on the region the person comes from. People in West Bengal, India also speak Bangla, (as people migrated from what used to be East Pakistan, and is now known as Bangladesh), though it is different than the language spoken in Bangladesh.

They understand one another easily, but the idiomatic differences are marked, partially due to religious and cultural differences. Example: To greet someone in Bangladesh, likely he is Muslim. In that case you would say "assalamu alaikum." (which is not Bangla, but Arabic)

To greet a non-Muslim Bengali in India, you could say "namoshkar."

As you may have discovered, Tamil is such an ancient and beautiful natural language - not just evident in the way it is spoken or written but the whole philosophy and art inherent in the language itself.

It's easy to fall in love with the Tamil Language and culture; not to mention the landscape of South India where the language is primarily spoken.

What makes learning Tamil particularly awesome is that it's a syllabic language (one of the most ancient and only syllabic languages on Earth according to many linguistic experts). So just about any single sound you can imagine and utter is actually one symbol in Tamil; making 247 unique sounds total in the Alphabet.

What this means is, the way words are written is actually the way they sound!

At first, one may think exasperatedly, 247 letters!? But actually there are only the 18 consonants and 12 vowels that simply multiple by one another to give you all the other letters in the Tamil alphabet.

This makes learning how to read, write, and pronounce all 247 letters in the Tamil alphabet extremely intuitive.

In only three days, you can literally learn how to read, write and pronounce all 247 Tamil letters from memory. Yes, after just three days of intense learning, imagine reading signs, newspapers and clearly speaking what is printed on them with ease so that native Tamil speakers can actually understand you!

Even better is being able to share that joy with the local villagers and indigenous tribal people. Definitely a supreme unifier and an instant passport into the deep mind and hearts of Keralites. Even though it's common for a Westerner to initially feel alienated by the linguistic and cultural diversity; you'll soon discover that becoming a Tamil tyro quickly bridges that ostensible divide!
