the timing is computer controlled when there is no dist.---which became standard in 1987---previous to that you rotate the dist. and set it to the number of degrees advance that the decal under the hood says---some where around 10---the timing marks are behind the harmonic balancer (which is on the end of the crankshaft)

Which terminal do you jump to set the timing on a 1989 Toyota pickup with a 22r-e engine?

You don't jump any terminals. I'm assuming your talking about using the DLC. Hook a timing light to the number one spark plug wire and loosen the clamp bolt on the distributor a little. Timing should be a 36-38 degrees BTD.

Is john deere 125 bigger than a stx 38?

From everything I see the 125 is a 42" mower with a 20HP engine. The STX-38 mowers were 38" with either a 12.5 or a 13HP engine. So, yes the 125 is bigger than the STX-38.

What does the timing on a 454 mercruiser need to be set at?

I have seen specs as high as 13 degrees but that seems a bit high to me. I would settle for something around eight degrees. That way you will be reasonably safe no matter what the other conditions are. This would be setting at an idle around 650 rpm. Its a good idea to rev the engine with the timing light attached and observe maximum advance it will likely go as high as 34 degrees total from about 2600 rpm to about 3400 max. You should never exceed a total timing of more than 38 degrees.
