There isn't a(n ancient) Greek word for holiday because the concept wasnt there. If I am not mistaken it started in Renaissance. In modern Greek its διακοπές (diakopes) from the word (n.) διακοπή (diakopi) meaning ''to stop''.
It means (among others) to stop what you are doing and do something else.
δια-κοπη δια (dia- to divide, usually in half) and κοπη (kopi, meaning cut , also τομή (tomi) you can find it in atom, tomography etc).
Too much information.
