Treat it as if it's never been ridden. Start slowly getting used to the tack, then get on and walk, try a trot, etc. Make sure to listen to the horse and go at their speed. Do not rush them...If you want a book to reffer to, try Pippa Funnell's "Training the young horse"; even if it's an old horse who's out of practice it's very effective.

You can higher a horse trainer to train your horse, or you can do it yourself by introducing your horse to a lunge line and a lead line. After your horse is comfortable with leading and everything you can start teaching your horse (on a lunge line) the gaits (walk, trot, canter) After your horse has learned the gaits you can introduce the saddle and bridle. Then when your horse is use to it you can put the saddle and bridle on while lunging. That way your horse can get use to having weight on its back. Then when you have taught your horse how to walk, trot, canter with the bridle and saddle on you can carefully and slowly get on it. Make sure its a experienced rider doing this! After that its just getting your horse use to turning left and right with a bridle. Remember training a horse takes a long time make sure you don't scare your horse with to much to handle at one time if you do your horse could be hard to handle as it gets older because it was not trained carefully and slowly.

First, you would have to train a horse how you would any other kind of riding. Make sure that that horse is "rideable" with lack of better explanation. The next step would be making a loud and flashy environment to work in. Take that horse out and ride it and have people around you clapping, making loud noises, flashing lighters, ect. That would get that horse used to any noise or distraction that could come with the persons it will be carrying. Next, make sure that horse can bear heavy weight. By this time your horses should be ready for any therapeutic riding.

A:Training is a very long process; too long to go into detail here. There are some very helpful videos, TV shows, and books that you can use, as well as finding a trainer.

I will tell you this though: The key to training is all in the release. Also keep in mind that you should always start with the lightest signal (basically, start at the end. use the cue you want the trained horse to go off of) As an example, to train a horse to lead, you would first take a step forward, which is the cue you want the horse to go off of when it is trained, and when the horse doesn't follow because he doesn't know what it means, then you would pull forward on the rope. Don't drag the horse, but put pressure on his head. He'll try several things to get away from the pressure. When he finally offers to move forward, which could include leaning forward, or taking a step, or lifting a foot, ect. When he finally trys to do what you want, release the pressure. After a few times of this, he should learn that to release the pressure, he has to step forward.

That is how all training should go. start with a light cue, then build the pressure and release when the horse does what you want.

To answer your second question, you can just use a stiff brush and this will work well enough to get whatever you need done. However, to get the best grooming, start with a curry comb, which could be rubber or plastic and has some form of teeth. Use this in circular motions to loosen up dirt off of your horses coat. Avoid bony areas like legs and face. After you curry, use a stiff brush with quick, short flicking motions of your wrist to flick off the loosened dirt. Then you can use a rag or a soft brush to get the finest specks of dirt and kind of polish your horses coat and to get the legs and face. You can also use a special face brush for the face if you wish. You may choose to comb out the horses mane and/or tail. Some people do this with a comb or brush, and others do it with their fingers to prevent the hair from breaking. Don't forget to clean the horse's hooves.

Edit: Just make sure you don't just head out to the barn and try i all alone the first time ever. make sure you seek the help of a professional until you gain enough experience to be comfortable on your own
