I just reset the "maintenance required" light on my 2006 Highlander. This is what I did.
(1) Turn the ignition key to ON.
(2) Press the odometer button until you see the TOTAL MILAGE displayed.
(3) Turn the key to OFF.
(4) While HOLDING DOWN the odometer button, turn the key to ON and KEEP HOLDIN DOWN the button and you will see 5 dashes blink off one by one.
(5) When all the dashes have blinked off, turn the key to OFF and you are done.

The computer is advising you that your oil change interval is drawing near. When the light changes to a steady glow you will have passed the factory set mileage recommended for an oil change.
It probably means that 7,500 miles have passed since your last oil change. If that is not the case, take it to a shop that can plug into your OBD system and read the trouble codes.
The time for your next oil change is coming very near.
Depends on which light you are referring to. The "Check Engine" light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system. The "Maintenance Required Light" comes on when scheduled maintenance is required as outlined in your owners manual.

It means you've passed the 7,500 mile mark since your last oil change. Within a few more miles (maybe evn by the time you get this) the light will have gone to steady on.
