This is really one of those jobs best left to the pros. Seriously it costs less than $200 for parts and labor, and it's done in an hour or two. If you try yourself you will take much longer, and will most likely leak. If you are still set on doing it yourself you will need a special wire caulking saw (purchased at an automotive store), and lots of caulking. Remove the trim around the windshield not easy, but do-able. Take the wire and shove one end through the caulking on the existing windshied so that half the wire now is inside the truck, and half is outside. With you on the inside and a friend on the outside saw the wire back and forth until you have traced the entire windshield (carefull if you are trying to save the glass it is easy to break it at this stage). Remove the old glass, and clean all the the old caulking off. Put in new caulking, and install the new glass. It will probably leak. Good luck.

Easy is relative. If you are skilled in replacing car windshield the job should take less than an hour. However, if you want the job done right without jeopardizing safety seek professional installers. That way you won't hear wind rushing through your windshield or hear it rattling or have safety issues if you airbag deploys. Often you can professionally repair a windshield for around $50 or replace it for $200-$400. A word of warning...an easy job now might cost you later.

Use an old flat wound guitar string - work it around edge of glass with a knife blade, or somesuch - then with a guy inside, and a guy outside the car - use it as you would a two man saw - sawing the glass away from the rubber gasket. Might use Duct Tape over the broken parts (in & outside) to keep glass from going everywhere - can also use sticky shelf paper.

Don't let some DIY pretender try to tell you to take it to a professional it's pretty simple take the outside trim off then take a knife and pierce a hole then insert a thin wire and have a freind help you cut around the windsheild from outside well your inside the truck and clean it very goodbuy some new trim and some windsheild sealer then put your new windsheild In and seal it up carefully to prevent it from leaking. Make sure you are carful and don't break the glass it will go In your heater, seal it with the trim then keep water off it and wait a day to drive it and your golden do some searching on Google more more info hope this helps

To replace a window pane, you must first remove the broken glass and scrape off the old glazing and pull out the old glazing points. They you must have a piece of glass cut to fit the space, it can be a fraction smaller. They you use a glazing tool to push the glazing points in, this holds the glass in place. After this you use the glazing tool to apply new glazing and smooth it out and let it dry.

Rear windshields are held in place by a rubber seal that encases the edges of the glass and also locks the glass to the pinch weld on the truck. The pinch weld is the metal lip or groove that goes around the window frame. A lock seal goes around the outside of the seal. The seal locks the glass in place, preventing it from popping out. You need to enlist the help of an assistant to complete the replacement of the rear windshield in a truck.

  1. Step 1

Cover the truck's seats with the plastic sheeting and put on the safety glasses.

  2. Step 2

Insert the flat-head screwdriver at the lower corner of the window, behind the chrome tab, in the edge of the seal. Pop out the corner of the seal and grasp it with your fingers. Pull the outer seal completely out of the window frame.

  3. Step 3

Ask your assistant to push on the glass from the inside while you are working on the outside. Place the flat-head screwdriver under the seal, in the lower corner, and pry the seal out. The seal will begin to pop out of the pinch weld. Continue this action around the glass until the window pops out of the frame completely.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze a small bead of weather stripping sealer into the slot where the glass seals into the inner seal. Install the seal onto the new glass.

  5. Step 5

Place the nylon cord around the seal, setting it where the pinch weld locks onto the seal.

  6. Step 6

Place the window onto the edge of the pinch weld with assistance from your helper. While both of you are working on the outside, ask your helper to lightly push the glass onto the pinch weld while you pull out the nylon cord. The cord allows the seal to lock over onto the pinch weld. Continue working around the glass until it pops into place on the pinch weld.

  7. Step 7

Reinstall the seal around the outside of the glass by using the screwdriver to spread the seal apart, letting the locking seal lock onto the seal. Continue this action all the way around the glass. Clean off any finger prints and excess sealer with a window cleaner.

As a profesional master certified auto glass installer, I wouldn't recommend the average backyard mechanic to attempt installing a windshield on your own.
