There are 2 Speed sensors on the outside of the transaxle. 1 is an input, the other output. Procedure for both is the same. Be sure to replace the correct one as they are identical in appearance. The output shaft speed sensor is rearward most on the transaxle's driver side. gently lift the locking tab on the plug to remove the connector. take care to not pull wires through or out of the plug. Also check the condition of the wires and plug. the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) could be fine and you have a wiring issue at that point. The speed sensor unscrews from the transaxle in a counter-clockwise direction. (1-1/16in oil pressure sender remover, available from Snap-on, in my oppinion works the best) Apply a slight ammount of ATF+IV to the threads of the new VSS and re-install in a clockwise manner. SNUG! DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! 15-20ft.lbs should be more than enough.

I have a 98 Concorde. My backup lights stopped working and I had my independent garage mechanic check it out while working on another problem and he told me the switch is internal, inside the transmission housing. I didn't pursue it futher. I'm not about to have them tear into the transmission just to replace a simple switch. Another example of Chrysler's wonderful engineering.
If what is mean is how do you locate the batter to replace it in certain models of the Chrysler Concorde such as the 2003 model.... the answer is to remove the driver side tire and fender. The batter is located in the fender skirt. Tracy Gibson of Virginia
