Is this a 3.0 litre? a 3.3 litre engine?
If it's a 3.3 litre engine like I have, you have to raise the front end up high enough to sit under unfortunately. You have to be able to reach a plate with two bolts beneath the alternator to release it to be freed from the top, and no matter how much a contortionist you are, you CANNOT do it from the top. One the lower bar is unbolted, you can remove the alternator from the mounting plate and plugs... and while you're down there...replace the three plugs you skipped the last time you did a tune up because you couldn't reach them ;-)

Adjust the belt or replace it with a new one.

This is hard due to limited space. Disconnect the neg. battery cable then the wiring and take the belt off and finally the mounting bolts. You have to also remove the intake manifold to have room for removal.
