The most likely culprit is the wiring terminal has come loose from the metallic grid on the glass. Most auto parts stores sell a kit for reattaching it. If you are handy with soldering gun you can reattach it yourself. DO NOT attempt this if you are not very good with soldering. If you have to ask questions about how to solder the terminal back on DON'T TRY IT. The auto parts stores kits use an epoxy glue and is very easy to use. I would use 100 % clear silicone, or Lexel.

I have an 01 Sebring Convertible, and the only way I fixed my window was the following. I went to Car-Part.com found the part, called around for the window with the attached fabric. Found someone willing to ship that piece to me. Got it for 1/6 of the dealer price. Found a seamstress and had it sewn in for dirt cheap. Quick fix. Hope this helps.

You can get the fuse for 1998 rear window defroster at the NAPA, Auto Zone.
The 1996 Chevy Cavalier rear window defroster fuse can be found in the fuse box. The rear window defroster fuse will be in the second column, fifth from the top.
If this is the terminal mounted on the window, clear silicone is best.
The 1953 Lincoln was the first car that had a rear window defroster. It also was the first car to have an optional 4 way power seat.
It is supposed to work that way. The AC is used to help remove excess moisture from the interior air so that the defroster can clear the window more efficiently.
