First you need to drain the gear lube from the drive unit.
Remove the lower and upper drain & vent screws and let all the oil drain.
Next, use either a 5/16" or a 3/8" Allen wrench and remove the anode from above the prop.
Now look up where the adone was mounted and you will see a hidden screw. Remove this screw with a 5/16" Allen wrench.
Now use a 5/8" deep socke and remove the two nuts from under the ventilation/cavitaion plate.
Remove the front nut at the very front of the drive with a 5/8" wrench.
Now use a 5/8" open ended wrench and unthread the two side nuts until they reach and touch the housing. One nut at a time unthread each nut and allow the nuts to push on the housing to aid in separating the housings.
Eventually you will get a space between the two housings in which you can GENTLY pry the housings apart.

Remove the 3 bolts holding the propeller assemble and lower it out paying attention to the water supply tubes when reassembling
depends on the year of the engine.

how do u remove the lower uint on an outboard motor? Depends on the outboard. Some Johnson/Evinrudes required that the powerhead (engine) be removed first for example. Look for a service manual for your particular motor on ebay, and it will tell you all you need to know to avoid problems.
does the lower unit need to be removed to replace the water pump on a 1995 Johnson 115 hp outboard engine
How do I remove the lower unit from my 1984 50 hp. Mercury outboard motor?
Never mind I figured it out
If the horsepower of your Mercury outboard lower unit is 75 and below, SAE 80W90 Gear Lube is recommended.
Remove the 6 or so bolts that hold the lower unit onto the leg of the outboard. There is an access panel with 2 screws on it that you have to remove as well that allows you to disconnect the shifting rod. Remove the little panel and loosen ONE of the bolts on the coupler. Pull the lower unit off of the leg, and when you stand it straight up, you will see a cover with about 4 bolts on it. That's the water pump housing. unbolt it, remove and you will see the impeller inside. The only tricky part of re assembly is making sure you get the coupler lined up for the shifter.
There are two fill/drain plugs located on the right hand site of the lower case. Remove them and drain the lubricant. Once emptied force the new lube into the case using the lower port. When it starts to come out the top it is full and you can reinstall the drain plugs. Always fill from the bottom port or air pockets will get trapped in the case.
cobra outboard drive unit drain plug inner threads fell in unit
Depends where the water (ie coolant) intake is
Its not that hard all you have to do is take the five bolts out of the lower unit and disconect the shift linkage, then you just pull the lower unit from the engine and you have the cover that slides onto the driveshaft remove the 4 bolts from it and pull it off and there is your impeller istalation is reveres of removal
It is easy...remove the lower unit..about 5 bolts. If you want to see this done YouTube it...a lot of good videos for DIY.
