I'm sorry that this is not the answer you want, but the correct answer to your question is you don't. There are very few things in this world that can't be undone, but adoption is one of them. Unless you were taken from your birth mother illegally or are being raised in a house of abuse, adoption is forever.

For whatever reason, your birth mother had at the time you were born, she knew she could not raise you herself. She made a loving and selfless decision to give you life and kiss you good bye. I don't doubt this was the hardest decision she has ever made and I don't doubt she misses you to her very core but there are no take backs.

Being a teenager is hard, more so when you are adopted and trying to find your way. I can only tell you as you get a little older it will be easier. You are very lucky even if you don't know it yet, to have two families who love you.

Becoming emancipated from your parents does not mean your birth mother can take you back.

I'll give you a little information on emancipation so you'll have an idea what the different states will expect if you want to try the process; every state has different rules and laws.

Some states call 19 the age of majority, a couple use 17, most use 18. Twenty states will not emancipate a teenager for any reason. In Maryland you may attempt to free yourself from the bonds of your parents but only if they are willing to file the petition with the courts on your behalf.

In California (for example) to become legally emancipated you must be 14 years old, live away from your parents, prove that emancipation is in your best interest and be earning and handling your own money that was earned legally. In CA you also have to continue your education until you graduate from high school or until you turn 18.

If at any time after you are declared emancipated the judge finds you are no longer earning a living or you have made any mistruths on your application, your petition is void and you will be sent back to live with your parents.

What age can you leave your mother's home and be legally adopted by your stepparents in IN?

You can only legally move out when you are 18 unless you have parental permission. The parents also have to give up their parental rights in order for you to be adopted as a minor. So if you still want to be adopted as an adult check with a lawyer if it is legal in your state when you turn 18.
