- Easy, obviously a trained horse is used. kicking its sides with your feet or whipping!

- Well, to go for a walk you lightly kick its side with your feet and say "Walk On." To get your horse to trot you lightly kick its sides again but this time you would say "Trot On." To get a horse to canter you would repeat what you just did for troting but only this time you would say "Canter." And that's how I get my horse to Walk, Trot, and Canter.

well, every horse is different, but most horses know the word walk, so, you nudge the horse with your heels and say walk on. if they don't, repeat with a harder nudge each time until they walk. if they begin to trot/jog, pull gently on the reins and say walk or easy. If the do not respod to the word walk, make a clicking noise with your tongue and nudge the horse at the same time. Make sure to sit deep and straight in the saddle, you should be able to feel bth your seatbones. DO NOT lean forward, that tells the horse to go faster.

When we are riding a horse, there are three main things we use to control the horse's motions - our legs, hands, and weight. A horse is trained to feel pressure, and respond to it. If I squeeze the horse with my legs, he tries to move away from the pressure by going forward. If I pull on the reins, he responds to the pressure in his mouth by trying to move away from it, which would be to slow or stop forward motion. If I lean forward in the saddle slightly, he responds by trying to move underneath me, and goes forward. All of this works for moving a horse backwards, too. If I tuck my hips in and lean slightly back in the saddle, apply a slight amount of even pressure with my legs to get the horse moving, but am stronger with my give-and-take pull with my hands, he should go backwards. Keep your hands low, and don't haul or tug on the reins. If he should try and go forward, sit deeper in the saddle, lean back just a little more, and be a little stronger with the pull-release-pull-release on the reins. When he takes the first step backwards, ease up on the reins a little as a reward. Praise him for even one step backwards - he's doing something right. In time, try to get him to do three or four steps. Let one training session build on the next for good, steady progress.

You can also begin on the ground, backing him and using the voice command of "back, back, back" with each step. That way, when you are in the saddle, you will have one more signal to help him figure out what you want him to do.

Keep your temper, and be lavish with praise for even small a compliance Hope this helps.

12. Can emus walk backwards?

It is believed that emus cannot walk backwards, as no evidence exists to the contrary. That is why, together with the kangaroo (which also cannot walk backwards), the emu is on the Australian coat-of-arms, symbolising progression forwards. Whether or not emus can or cannot walk backwards has never been definitively proven, as the phenomenon of them walking backwards has been neither observed nor recorded. It is believed that the joints in their knees make it impossible for them to walk backwards.
