If you're just looking for a one-time quick fix, copy this: é or è or ê

You can also use Alt + # to get various special characters.

A link to a list of Alt codes can be found in the links section.

Type Alt + 130 then let Alt go to get é.

Here is a partial list of Ctrl codes:

à, è, ù

[CTRL + ` (accent grave)] [the letter]

é

[CTRL + ' (apostrophe)] [the letter]

â, ê, î, ô, û

[CTRL + SHIFT + ^ (caret)] [the letter]

ä, ë, ï, ö, ü

[CTRL + SHIFT + : (colon)] [the letter]

œ, Œ

[CTRL + SHIFT + & (ampersand)] [o or O]

ç, Ç

[CTRL + , (comma)] [c or C]

If your word-processing program has a good foreign language dictionary, you can sometimes use spell-check to add accents.

You could find it on an online document and copy and paste it to your document. You could find your computer's special characters palette.

Or you could look up the key command.

Press and hold ctrl then press shift. Take your fingers off, the try and do a slash or a ?mark. It makes an é or É to take it off hold ctrl then press shift.

The easiest way is to copy (cut and paste) it. Here is one for you to copy:-

è

If you are running Windows, you may wish to use the ALT codes. Simply hold the ALT key and type the sequence of numbers detailed in the link below to generate a character with a accent.

With a Mac, you can easily add the keyboards used in other languages and then easily switch among them. Go to system preferences, keyboard, then input source. Hit the plus to add whatever keyboards you like. You may have to explore the keyboard in order to see what is where. Don't forget that the shift key and caps lock key may make a difference in terms of what letter/accent will appear.

Make sure you have Number Lock on.

If you are working in Microsoft Word, you can create an é by typing Ctrl+' followed by "e".

The easiest way is to use the accent key on the keyboard. This is the little "tick" mark and "swiggle" on the number row on your keyboard. It is on the left side of the keyboard, above the tab key and below the escape button, next to the number 1. You would click the letter you want and then click on the accent mark key. It would look like this for the letter e: e`
