The teepee used long wooden poles as supports (3 or 4 main poles and from 10 to 20 secondary supports) and these were covered with animal skins, usually buffalo hides.

A teepee (also tepee and tipi) was a cone-shaped Native American home or hut, used by the tribes of the plains. The framework consisted of either 3 main poles or 4, slanted together and secured at the top. Other poles were laid between them to form a structure for the hides. One teepee could require a dozen or more buffalo hides. The teepees of the tribe's leaders were often painted and decorated. There was a small hole at the top for ventilation, and additional flaps that allowed indoor cooking and heating fires.

A teepee is one of the many different types of houses used by First People nations. If you want to build a Cree teepee you need to a material such an animal skin, poles, and a thick rope. The poles need to be stood up and then tied at the top. The material is then thrown over the top and evened out to finish creating the structure.
