An organism is a complex thing. Sperm were designed to make an exit swim their way to the fallopian tube and fertilize an ovum by becoming part of it. If it does not do this in the time it has given the energy and resistance it has against the outside environment it is destined to break down as it is not complex enough to take on board food or do the repairs necessary to maintain itself.
