∙ 13y agoYes, smallpox can be diagnosed, but this disease was completely eradicated in the 1960s and 1970s through a worldwide vaccination program. In 1979, after two years without a single reported case of the disease anywhere in the world, all but a few very small laboratory stocks of the vaccine-producing virus were destroyed.
To contract smallpox today, it is believed you would have to come into contact with one of these 4 or 5 laboratory stocks since the virus is completely nonexistant elsewhere.
If you believe you have smallpox (or anything similar) you should consult a doctor. If you do have smallpox, you are a genuine rarity. A more likely possibility is chicken pox, but this too should be treated immediately.
