In hooking up a 240V Air Conditioner you have four wires but only three on outlet What three go on receptacle Red Black White Copper?
Answer . For a 240V with ground outlet you will connect black (hot) to one brass screw, red (hot) to the other brass screw, and bare (ground) to the green screw. Cap whit…e (neutral) with a wire nut. It is for 240/120V appliances.\n. \nIf you don't fully understand this buy a book. This is a very basic question. If you don't understand which wire is which you could make a serious mistake causing fire or death.
Yes, this is the return path to the electrical panel, on a short circuit condition, that trips the breaker A short circuit is when the hot or neutral wire is broken, or tou…chiing another wire. the ground wire does not trip a breaker. The ground wire is a wire designed to carry current back to the source in the event of a short circuit. All your appliances are wired so that if the outside of the appliance becomes "hot" (electrically charged) the ground wire will take this current back to source to prevent you from being shocked. The breaker will/ should trip but this is because of the hot or neutral circuit being shorted. Before you do any work yourself, on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized IF YOU ARE NOT REALLY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
The presence of the red wire in a light switch situation usually involves a 3 way switch. The light itself would only have the black and white running to it but the switches h…ave the extra wire between them for the traveler. See the Related Link shown below for a diagram, or just google "3 way switch diagram".

How do you hook up a 15 amp 240V outlet which only has three terminals to 240V wire which has two hot wires a white and a ground?
Before working on this circuit be sure that the power is turned off . First the breaker that will be feeding the outlet should be a 2 pole 15 amp breaker using at least a #1…4 wire. Since this is a 240 volt install you will not be using the white wire. Tape it off and push it to the back of the outlet box. Take the 2 hot wires and connect them to the two terminal screws of the 240 volt rated outlet. Connect the ground wire to the (usually) green screw. Re install the outlet face plate. Job complete.
The white and black are typical for the outlet, the red is to control the switch for the circuit. If your not using a three way switch (two switches that when in the same posi…tion activate/charge the system, typically located at the entry ways to a room ie one at each door) then you can ignore the red wire and just use the black and white ones to charge the outlet. Be sure to ground it as well (if there is not a bare copper wire then just use the red one!-but that's not to code)
How do you hook the 4 wires which are 2 whites 1 red and 1 black coming from the back of a generator to an outlet for 120v and 240v?
The whites are Neutrals or Grounds and the Red and Black are each 120v. One white and either the black or red for 120v and one white, both the red and black for 240v.
A 14-50R range receptacle pin identification are as follows. U shaped slot, ground wire. Slot Y, red wire. Slot X, black wire. Slot W, white wire.
Yes, you can still have an electrical fault current on an appliance or the wiring which needs to have a ground return path for personal and equipment safety.
Yes, if the circuit breaker and the wiring is large enough to carry the sum of the amp draw of all. Without knowing what will be plugged into the outlets, there is no way to b…e more specific. It is recommended to use a dedicated circuit for a garbage disposal. It is best not to add any additional loads to kitchen counter receptacles as these are also dedicated circuits.
change the 4 wire stove plug to 3 wire plug! 25 dollars at most local stores.
Green or copper ground wire goes to the round connection on the plug or ground screw on stove. White neutral wire goes to the connection opposite of the ground or neutral on t…he stove. The red and black wires are connected to the other 2 connections or hot connections on the stove. Connect either one to either connection makes no difference. Green or copper wire is ground White is neutral Red carries 120 volts Black carries 120 volts
It's possible that the outlet is on a switch, and either one half of the outlet is switched or the whole thing. The extra two pair of wires probably feed the NEXT outlet.
Red and black are "hot", white is neutral. depending on the outlet being used, there should be some kind of indication telling you which is which. Sometimes it's just the colo…rs of the screw, with brass being "hot", and silver representing neutral.
Yes, black is hot, white is neutral, and copper is ground.
How do you connect a White Black Green wired device to household White Black Red ground light outlet?
If there is a red wire in the fixture box it sounds like the fixture is three way switched. The travelers are coming from one of the two switches and the cable is going to the… second switch. See related links below.
