You can get tuberculosis when somebody, untreated, has the disease. If they cough, sneeze, or spit, the TB germs can get flung into the air. People who aren't vaccinated can end up with the disease if they don't get treated. But, TB isn't easy to catch.

A person with TB infection will have no symptoms. A person with active TB disease may have any, all or none of the following symptoms:

  • A persistent cough
  • Constant fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fever
  • Coughing up blood
  • Night sweats

These symptoms can also occur with other diseases so it is important to see a health-care provider and to let them find out if you have TB. A person with TB disease may feel perfectly healthy or may only have a cough from time to time. If you think you have been exposed to TB, get a TB test.

You need to take a specific test for it. Just ask your doctor if you are concerned about this. The test is simple and easy.

You, as a non-doctor, can't know unless that individual is given a TB tine test and the positive result of that test is shared with you.
