Depending on the stage its in, such as the tingling or blister stage i would hold ice on it wraped up in a wash cloth. This might even stop the cold sore from breaking out. Worked well for me in the past. the other day i got a really bad cold sore and called up my dentist and he right away prescribed for me Zoviarx ointment. This speeds up the healing process and takes the main away but i still took some pain meds. anyway the best thing to do is keep it moist. Vaseline!!! is the best along with zoviarx! dont pick at it even when it scabs then it will take longer to heal. trust me i know! tea bags in the freezer also work.
