  • If one has grown up in a verbally abusive atmosphere it takes the victims self confidence away and makes them feel lesser than their peers. There are two ways to overcome this problem. When the young person is no longer a minor and is out on their own they can listen and learn from some of their friends as to how they handle problems. No matter what ones age they are always learning from others. The hurt stays for a long time, but dig in your heels and get angry and prove that you are not all the things you have been called in the past. Secondly, psychological counseling will help you learn the correct tools to raise yourself up from the verbal battering. You are special and just as important as anyone else. You are intelligent; loving; loyal and all those are excellent qualities. Depending on what verbal abuse was given to you such as being called fat or unattractive you probably aren't, but take the time to learn from a friend how to wear your hair and dress whether you are male or female. If you are in your 20's or older then go to a hair salon and pick out a new hairstyle. If you are a female then go to a good beauty salon and learn the tricks of the trade to putting on makeup. You can also get help from a close friend to help you buy the right clothes and they don't have to be expensive. Volunteer for others because this makes you feel good inside. Take extra courses even if it's night school and keep educating yourself. Walk tall and confident and reach for the stars! If you stop dreaming you stop living.

What is verbal hostility?

Verbal hostility, or in other words, verbal harassment or abuse is basically a negative defining statement told to or about you or withholding a response and pretending the abuse is not happening. Verbal abuse (or hostility) can lead to emotional abuse and hostility in the workplace. This can lead to hatred and noneffective dispositions in the workplace, and this is precisely the reason why workplaces work to eliminate such disturbances. However, verbal abuse is seen in many other places, not just in the workplace. In school, it takes the title of bullying and even at home parents can emotionally abuse their children or spouses.
