There is an old school way to get a rear seal to stop leaking. Drain the oil and replace with 4 and 1/4 quarts of fresh oil. Now place 1/2 a can of dot 3 (Old style brake fluid) in with the oil. Run the car for no more then 15 minutes! (Just enough to bring the motor up to temp 180degree's.) Drain the oil and replace the filter along with 5 quarts of oil. The brake fluid will swell the seal and stop the leak and smoking! (This is an old school fix that will last for awhile, But be warned there are pro's and con's to this. Some say it's bad for the car or truck. If you are just looking for a quick and a NOT PERMINENT fix for very little money this is it.
