How do you explain why using work sheets is an inappropriate learning tool for young children?

Worksheets Not NeededYoung children are active learners who, depending on the age, don't know how to read and write yet. Even younger children may be at the scribbling stage in coloring. For those reasons alone worksheets are not appropriate for them.

Add to that the fact that learning should be natural and fun for them, placing worksheets in front of them, even the very simple ones, stifles their natural curiosity and creativity. How much more fun is it to count while building a block tower as high as you can than sitting at a table counting blocks on a worksheet! Not only are they learning to count while building the block tower, but they are using fine motor skills, problem-solving skills (how to make the tower in such a way that you can make it taller and taller), To top it off, it's fun for them!

Though we all get used to the idea that learning can't take place in a structured environment like school without the use of worksheets, nothing could be farther from reality for young children! They learn much, much more by doing hands-on activities!

While hands-on learning needs to be the focus for young children, providing some coloring sheets, writing pages, and other fun pages for children to voluntarily do, and using them for group time every now and then, provides a quiet learning time and is certainly appropriate when the main teaching method used is hands-on leaning.
