The following is a walkthrough, it is obviously a SPOILER so don't read it unless you're ready.
1. Get the pail
2. Open the door and scoop some snow with the pail.
3. Get the tongs.
4. Use the tongs on the lamp.
5. Use the lamp-top on the wax.
6. Use the tongs on the fire.
7. Put the wax on the wire.
8. Use the fire/tongs on the snow.
9. Get the key from the right side of the bookcase.
10. Leave.
