There are two ways: 1. First download the apps onto your computer using iTunes. Plug in your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, and set the sync settings so that you can download apps to it, sync your iPod and you should see the apps on there. 2. Go to the app store on your iPod and download them from there. Both require an iTunes account.
The free songs on iTunes are marked as Free. You need to click the Free button and the song will be downloaded into your iTunes Downloads folder. You need to have an iTunes account set up and to be logged into the account.

It's pretty easy, you can go straight to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download iTunes. You can set up a new account direct from there and then plug in your iPod and sync it up with your newly installed iTunes software
If you have your iPod set to manually manage the content, you can click and drag the file to the iPod icon in the iTunes window. But if you have the iTunes 9 program, there is a option called "Autofill." To do this, hook your iPod to the computer. Then when iTunes recognizes your iPod, go to the music tab. At the bottom, click the Autofill button and then all the song will automatically download onto your iPod.
My Itunes says Electronica :)
There is no actual membership for iTunes. You download the free software (See links below) and use that to maintain your music library. If you wish to buy music from the iTunes store click on the Store link in iTunes and when you are ready to purchase you will be asked to set up an account.
