Previous versions of GE can be downloaded from the direct installer links. Prior to the non-beta release of GE 6.0 in March 2011 GE 4.3 was still available and has since been removed.

Only caveat is these versions have the auto-installer disabled so you have to manually install any updates yourself. This is not a problem since the auto-update mechanism has been known to cause problems for windows users.

You have to download it from earth.google.com

1.Go onto Google.

2.type in google earth, click on go.

3.click on the very top one.

4.look at the top right corner.

5.click the green box that say 'download google earth [free]'.

Go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the DOWNLOAD button.

You have to agree to its restrictions through a pop-up. Be sure to check if your browser is blocking the popup.

On Windows XP: Just run the setup executable with administrator privileges.

On Linux: At the xterm window, in the directory where the downloaded file is located, type

sudo sh ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

You should be prompted for a directory where you want to keep it. The executable is called googleearth and should be located in your /usr/sbin directory unless otherwise specified.

I did not select Linux. I think it detected my OS and downloaded the linux. A few weeks ago, this did not work, but the newest version is working.

You can download Google Earth versions 5.1 and 5.2 from Google's direct download page (found in related links below), but note that Street View layer is no longer available for versions older than 6.0.

The standard download page only allows you to download the latest 7.2 and the previous 7.0 version. For older versions you must use the direct download page mentioned above.

Google provides a direct download installer web page to download the current (7.1.5) and older versions of Google Earth (6.2, 6.1, 6.0, 5.2, 5.1) for Windows and Mac.

This web page also has links to download GE Pro versions as well. As of the 6.0 release, the 5.0 and 4.3 versions are no longer available from here. Linux at present can be downloaded from the normal download page.

Also note that Street view layer is no longer supported in Google Earth 5.x versions and earlier

GE 4.3 could be downloaded from the direct installer links from Google prior to March 2011.

As of the non-beta release of GE 6.0 in March 2011, download links to GE 4.3 have since been removed from google's web site.

However, you can still download old versions of Google Earth (including beta versions) from the filehippo website. (This website is not affiliated with Google so use at your own risk.)

Will the placemarks be saved on Google Earth if you uninstall it?

Yes, the placemarks are saved in a different location such that uninstalling and reinstalling Google Earth will preserve the user's old saved places. See related links below to find the saved places file which is named myplaces.kml.

Can you view pictures from 2007 on Google maps?

If imagery for a given area in Google Maps is older than 2007 you must wait for an update in that area.If imagery is more recent than 2007 Google Maps doesn't provide a 'historical imagery' view as Google Earth does. In that case you have to download/install Google Earth to see old/historical imagery.

How can you find out how old the images are on Google Maps?

For Street View imagery the date of a Street View is displayed bottom right of the image (but not the time). For dates of the base imagery in Google Maps you'll need to use Google Earth and locate the same location and zoom level for the same view to see the imagery date. For whatever reason the imagery dates are not shown in Google Maps. Google Earth (unlike Google Maps) has historical imagery showing all previous versions of imagery that Google has for the particular area.See related question to show dates in Google Earth.
