Depending on the "sect", Wiccans can operate in covens or as solitary practitioners (or both). Some have formal initiations and training regimes, some don't. Try to find one in your area and see what they tell you.

However, Wicca doesn't require you to belong to any specific group. If you agree with the philosophy and engage in the practices, you are a Wiccan. Though, many people might wonder why you would even choose Wicca.

Well, to start off - no one "does" Wicca. Although not recognized by most, Wicca is a religion. No one asks how do you "do" Christianity, or how do you "do" Buddism. Personally, I do not like the term "practice" in reference to a religion. I practice my Flute. I practice drawing. But when it comes to religion - I live my religion.

Every day you wake up, you honor your deities, try to be thankful no matter how hard times get and try to make the world a better place one day at a time. This is pretty much a standard in any religion I have studied.

If you are curious about wicca, or other pagan based religions please visit witchvox.com for pretty good up to date information on the whys, hows and whats of the religion. Also good is religioustolerance.org.

To convert to Witchcraft (also known as Wicca)one must follow the procedure below.

STEP 1: Make peace with yourself about it. Going into this is a choice that must not be taken lightly. By becoming a Witch, one must take on certain responsibilities, rather than accepting that someone else is going to do it for you. You will be required to teach all who appear worthy and are bound to keep the Old Religion alive.

STEP 2: Drop any association with any other religion, but do not deny the truths they present. Remember that truth doesn't discriminate religiously. Keep your mind open, especially when you begin on the occult path. One cannot be a Witch and a Christian, because Witches don't believe in Hell or the Devil, or that Jesus was the son of God.

STEP 3: Begin your studies. This is probably the most important part. You will never stop studying if you decide that you are truly a Witch. A period of a year and a day is required before you can successfully be initiated into a coven, and it is highly recommended that solitary Witches (ones who work without a coven) also study for a year and a day

STEP 4: Decide which god/desses you will serve. Pick the one(s) that ring true with your soul. Witchcraft is NOT EVER Atheistic, but the process of magick is. Decide why you are dedicating yourself to this god and research them completely and extensively.

Most traditions will require that you also pick a totem animal too. Record all findings in a Book of Shadows

STEP 5: Fashion your tools from all natural materials, except in the case of the Athame (a short black handled dagger used to direct energy) you will probably have to buy this unless you just happen to be a blacksmith. Sew a ritual robe together. It should be dark colored, black is the best, because it is dull and wont distract the other you may work with, and it draws energy from your surroundings, making your spells that much stronger.

STEP 6: Begin a Book of Shadows. It is a Book that you write all of your studies in while on your journey through witchcraft. The cover must be black, and you must never EVER let anyone read it. Imagine it as your soul, Would you want someone to just flip through your soul for fun? It must be handwritten in your handwriting. On the First page, write this charm while you are in a magickal circle:

These words herein are mine alone

Fashioned deep inside my bones

Each picture, thought, and word you see

Are all reflections of what is me

Beware the urge to take this book

And read it in some private nook

For its magick isn't blind,

And I will know you've touched whats mine.

Write everything you learn about Witchcraft in it, especially during your first year and a day, while you are yet uninitiated.

Step 7: After your studies of a year and a day, try to find a seasoned Witch to initiate you into the Old Religion. If one cannot be found, there are many liturgies out there for self initiation. Most of them take time, and require a period of meditation (which BTW never goes away either.) With Witchcraft, don't rush things. That is how most people decide that it is fake, or that it is evil. they rush and don't take into consideration their actions.

You are officially a Witch after this procedure is finished, and remember that if you rush things, you will not actually be a Witch, but a dabbler.

Being a Witch is not about casting spells, or making magick. It is about trying to improve yourself, and trying to better the world around you. Casting spells that hurt or harm someone is a big no no and will only backfire on you. Be sure this is what you want, because if you go through with this procedure you can not leave for a year and a day.

The answer given above is mainly concerned with the neo-pagan spiritual pathway known as Wicca.

In truth, there is no need to "convert" to Paganism, since Paganism is simply an umbrella term for nature-based beliefs and practises.

A Pagan is not necessarily a Witch, and recognising or discovering one's Pagan beliefs, does not require an interest in or involvement with Witchcraft, or with Wicca.

My first question here is "Why would you want to?"

A person's spiritual path is their own personal business. Converting someone else is not just unadvisable but unethical.

Wicca is not a cult nor is it wicked, harmful or sinful. Most practitioners of Wicca and other pagan paths are kind, caring, ethical people… It is unrealistic to make a blanket statement about All practitioners. As with any group, there are those who are do not live up to the ideals.

I recommend you look carefully at the person you think you need to convert. If they are living a good, ethical life, it is not up to you, or anyone other than that person to force a change of spiritual path.

To quote Siana Lynn Darrow… "If by worshiping a god or gods one become a person of morality and kindness, then the name by which you call that god or gods becomes of no consequence whatsoever."

_____________________________________________________________

First of all, when meeting a Wiccan, do not accuse him/her of worshipping the Devil, just because he/she believes in practicing witchcraft. Satanist witches worship the Devil. Wiccan witches worship pagan deities such as a goddess or a god(who although is usually described as having horns, is not the Devil, but, most usually believed to be Pan or Hearn or some other pre-christian pagan deity).

Ask him/her why he/she has chosen to worship deities nobody has believed in or worshipped for thousands of years as opposed to Christ, Who Sacrificed Himself for our Salvation?

A lot of Wiccans include the Virgin Mary in their goddess pantheon, even though Christians honour her as a the Mother Of God, but, definitely not as a goddess to be worshipped. Ask them why they choose to worship Our Lord's Mother, but, not the Lord Himself?

If the Wiccan talks to you about the "Burning Times," & about all the millions of witches who were killed during that time period, tell them that although it was wrong to execute so many innocent people, on both sides of the Atlantic, that a)it was in the thousands, in a period of about 3 or 4 centuries, & b)most of the people who were killed were not even witches, but, people who were wrongly accused of practicing witchcraft.

By contrast, most people who have been killed for being Christians **WERE** devout Christians, who chose death, rather than give up their faith in Christ. Ironically, many Wiccans do not even believe in martyrdom, despite all their talking about the "Burning Times." Tell them that a god that is not worth giving your life up for, is a god not worshipping at all.

(I also converted from Christianity to Wicca)

First, make a circle.

You will need:

5 candles (green, yellow, red, blue and purple)

1 fire source

Meaning:

Green: Earth

Yellow: Air

Red: Fire

Blue: Water

Purple: Spirit

Set up:

*The set up will be in the shape of a plus sign: +

1. Find the direction of West and make sure the green candle at the top (the top post of the +)

2. Set the yellow candle to the right of the green candle and down (the right post of the +)

3. The red candle will be directly under the green (the lower post of the +)

4. The blue candle across from the yellow (the left post of the +)

5. Finally the purple will be in the middle (middle of the +)

Process:

1. Burn a smudge stick to cleanse yourself and your circle of bad energy.

2. Starting with Air (yellow) call the element to your circle with a positive trait it brings and light the candle. Ex. "Air, you bring with you winds of change. Come to me."

3. Go around the circle clock-wise, calling the element and lighting candles saving Spirit for last.

4. Connect with the Goddess. Say the Wiccan Rede and explain to the Goddess why you want to give your life to her. Explain to her what this will do for you and describe the relationship you would like to have with her. There are no wrong answers. You can do this in prayer form or aloud.

5. Blow out candles in the order you lit them, dismissing each element. Ex. "Thank you, Air."

6. Burn the smudge stick once again.

(I sincerely hope you will be happy. This has made me appreciate and love my life and all the changes. It's such a beautiful thing.) )O( Blessed Be.

This isn't a "yes/no" answer to this question. It has to be a personal choice. Thus differing from person to person.

The simplest answer I can give is:

1. Do you believe in a God, Goddess, or Both?

2. Do you believe that the closer you are to nature the closer you are to God/Goddess/Both?

If you answer YES to these, then that may help you decide.

HOWEVER, IF YOU BELEIVE ANY OF THESE YOU ARE NOT READY TO BE A PAGAN/WICCAN

  1. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans, are naturally evil.
  2. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans are not human but rather an evolved form of humans.
  3. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans do not look like regular people.
  4. You must be born into a family of Witches, Wiccans or Pagans to become one.
  5. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can steal "powers" from each other.
  6. Witchcraft, Wicca and Pagamism are opposites of Christianity.
  7. It is difficult to hurt a witch/pagan/wiccan.
  8. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans are resistant to spells.
  9. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans always dress in black.
  10. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can change their form and appearance at will.
  11. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can change the form and appearance of others at will.
  12. All Witches, Wiccans or Pagans engage in ritualistic orgies.
  13. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can fly on broomsticks
  14. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can fly without broomsticks.
  15. A male witch/wiccan/pagan is called a Warlock.
  16. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans worship Satan.
  17. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans have made a deal with Satan to attain super natural powers.
  18. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans perform animal and human sacrifices.
  19. Witchcraft/Wicca/Paganism has no rules.
  20. Witchcraft/Wicca/Paganism is the same as Satanism.
  21. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans hate Christians.
  22. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans promote Abortion as a form of human sacrifice.
  23. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans are allergic to water.
  24. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans hate being called Witches.
  25. No man can be a witch/wiccan/pagan.
  26. Witchcraft, Wicca and Paganism are not religious practices.
  27. Being a witch/wiccan/pagan means not believing in any higher power.
  28. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can possess people.
  29. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans get sick or hurt when Jesus Christ is mentioned or a crucifix is shown to them.
  30. All Witches, Wiccans or Pagans practice "Black Magic"
  31. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can levitate.
  32. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans do not come out during the day.
  33. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans avoid public and live in the woods.
  34. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans have no worries and are always happy.
  35. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans can bring pictures "to life"
  36. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans summon demons and then take control of them for future use.
  37. Witchcraft, Paganism or Wicca are not a religion.
  38. Witches, Wiccans or Pagans put curses on priests.
  39. The Pentagram is a sign of Satan.

The above is repetitive. The answer is to do research from un-bias sources, and judge by yourself if those beliefs and religious practices are in agreement with your beliefs. I caution you that you read up on how to identify cults as all religions, Christian included, have similar ways of coercing new members into their religion.
