Prestone (and perhaps others) sells a kit that makes this easier. Should be available at most auto parts stores.
Cleans antifreeze and dirt out of the radiator
Purchase a PRESTONE flush kit, radiator flush, and new antifreeze. There is directions on package. You will be splicing a 'tee'into heater hose return line with a garden hose adapter, adding the flush to the radiator, and attaching the garden hose to the tee fitting. After running the engine for about 10 minutes with the flush in it, you will attach a garden hose to the tee and push all the crap right out the rad. Works good. Add antifreeze. Done. I hope this helps you. Mark
can crack the engine.
i flush the radiator filled it with antifreeze water .. now i heard i should take out air from inside of radiator or hoses so the air will not block circulation of the water? thank you.
To flush a Toyota Previa radiator, first drain the antifreeze in the radiator into a bucket. This is done by turning the valve at the bottom of the radiator. Close the valve and add a radiator flush product purchased at an automotive parts store. Follow the directions on the bottle of flush. This usually means running the vehicle for a certain amount of time and then draining the radiator again.
You can best flush the radiator on your 1992 Camry by taking it to a shop that has the proper equipment to do a complete fluid exchange while the car is at operating temperture. You cannot do a complete flush if the car engine is cold, because the thermostat blocks passages in the engine block. Flushing the radiator alone by removing the lower hose, recovering and disposing of the old coolant, and refilling is only part of the system. Thanks for reading. RM
You will not damage the engine but you can damage the radiator if you use any high pressure. If you only flush and apply no pressure you will do no damage. Use a chemical flush and a water hose and you will be safe.
The radiator tends to clog up after many years of operation. This causes poor coolant circulation and over heating of the engine. Flushing the radiator will clean this out and restore its cooling capability. Doing it yourself is a messy job but it can be done. You need to collect the old antifreeze also as it is toxic. Buy a radiator flush solvent and just follow the instructions on the container. Hope this is helpful
Drain radiator by plug at the bottom or rear side of radiator Flush with clear water and refill with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water
remove bottom radiator hose to drain system. flush system a few time before adding antifreeze.
You still need to flush the engine block and heater core.
vehicle will overheat. just dump the oil and antifreeze , flush engine and refill with clean oil
