The process of divorce is today a fairly simple procedure. The first step in securing a divorce is, usually, to consult a lawyer who specialises in this section of the law. Grounds for divorce vary from country to country so without further information a definitive answer cannot be given. Alternatives to divorce are available. Some are arbitration, councilling, trial separation etc. These are less final solutions and are worth considering.

This is an uphill battle as everything is viewed as a personal injustice. Attempts to justify their own behaviour will be by creating a reality in which they have done nothing wrong and all actions are an injustice against themself. Prepare to be punished as the narcissist attempts to right the wrong against them by verbal, emotional and possibly physical abuse. In creating a reality in which they are the center fabrication may even be used. Have all things go through leaga council, obey the letter of the court mandates to the letter and keep track of all things. Do not take phone calls unless you tell the individual that they are being recorded. Do not correspond via email. If you have children expect the narcissist to use children as a pawn to validate their own selfish needs. Follow the court mandated custody papers.

I was married to a narc for 14 years, separated for 12 of those years. I recently divorced him this year after leaving him 12 years ago. Back then, I told him I was going to divorce him, he told me he would never sign any papers to let me go. Dumb as he still is, he didn't know that I didn't need his consent. Back then, I refused to spend a cent of my money to pay for a divorce & I'm not planning to ever re-marry so I just let it ride all these years and so did he, telling people that I didn't want a divorce, which was just his reason to hold on.

I filed this year when I found out I could get the divorce for free (no kids, property, etc and lost my job due to the economy) I qualified for the state to pay for it; I went to the public library & printed off the court forms from a reference book & filed without an attorney. Long story short, he won't file 98% of the time; he want to hold on to whatever link he has left. If you want the divorce, you'll need to file. Again, you won't need his permission but if you think he will contest it, you will need an attorney. Mine was shocked when the sheriff showed up on his doorstep with the summons. He called & tried to talk me out of going to court and said he just thought one day, we might get back together....huh? Good luck

Celebrate!

Go out with your friends and family because I'm sure your ex kept you from them as much as possible. Reconnect relationships with people you care about and don't ever look back.

If you need help in how to heal do what I did and read everything you can get your hands on regarding NDP that way you will be sure to never go back.

Consider yourself lucky you are divorcing from this person. These people are horrible self-centered emotional vampires that don't consider their partners as human beings.

Talk to a therapist if you have to but whatever you do stay away and in time you will feel like a human being again. Trust me, I know, I've been there. The day I finally dumped my ex N was truly the day I began to heal.

The same way you would anyone else. In no-fault states, you simply file. In other situations, your attorney can advise you.

There are no special divorce actions for Narcissism.

How do you cope with dementia in a person with narcissistic character disorder Is a narcissist more prone to dementia in old age?

My mother suffered from (undiagnosed) Narcissistic Personality Disorder. During the last years of her life she showed signs of Dementia. My step-mother (my father knew how to pick his women!!) has been, for her entire life, a full blown narcissist with all the traits of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. She has recently (she is 78) been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. I have no idea how to cope with it. It is soul destroying to have to deal with her.

How do personality disorder differ from personality traits?

I think you mean personality traits and clinical disorders. clinical disorders are not absolute but exist on a spectrum. If a person exhibits a certain number of specific symptoms over a specified period of time, they will receive a clinical diagnosis. having personality traits means that a person exhibits a portion of what it takes to be diagnosed with a personality disorder. for example, a person can have narcissistic traits (we all do, actually) but not have narcissistic personality disorder.

Is there women who is a psychopathic?

Most certainly. Exact figures are impossible to forecast because of lack of presentation and inexpert diagnosis. Furthermore as psychopathy is nowadays regarded as a legal term rather than medical (similar to insanity) it is extremely rare to have a diagnosis unless in the process of the law. The term psychopathy was perhaps first introduced and refined by Cleckley and Hare. The list if traits is quite long but probably the closest correlations in the DSM are the "cluster B" personality disorders.Exact classifications of the personality disorders between the sexes is blighted by gender politics but much of the modern psychological thinking suggests that the masculine form of psychopathy is most commonly seen as AntiSocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)and the feminine form of psychopathy is manifested mainly as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD.) Although these are regarded as masculine or feminine styles they can be widely found in both men and women.

When do personality traits become a disorders?

1/ Typically personality traits are only graduated to a disorder when they are inflexible or maladaptive; to the point that it creates significant chaos and disruption in the life of those who are exhibiting the traits. Problems in society, such as work or interpersonal relations, when caused as a direct result of personality traits are considered as disorder. Sad but true. If you are getting along well for the most part with your personality traits then it is not considered disorder. For the most part we as a society exhibit similar traits, but to varying degrees. When the degree is too little or extreme this is a sign of disorder .2/ May I try to explain the difference between Personality Disorders and Personality traits. Personality disorders are according to mental health professionals diagnosis criteria, problems a few men or women may have in their personality which get them into trouble in their lives. These are characterised by that person's "failure to learn from experience or adapt appropriately to changes". As a result people having one or more Personality Disorders usually experience personal distress, serious impairment of social functioning and difficulties in employment, usually leading to them being failures in their working life and/or committing criminal offences sometimes leading to prison and problems in making friends and in their relationships with others. There are three clinical groups of personality disorders that people may suffer from, although most people with personality disorders tend to have two or more of them within their overall personality and character. The groups involve :a/ Extremely weird behaviour - including a Paranoid Personality Disorder, a Schizoid Personality Disorder, a Schizotypal Personality Disorder, and a Self- Defeating or Masochist Personality Disorder.b/ Extremely dramatic/emotional behaviour - including Histrionic Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder.c/ Behaviour dominated by anxiety and/or fear - including Dependent Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder and Passive Aggressive Personality Disorder.Regarding Personality Traits, we all have them, whereas only about 2% of us also suffer from personality disorder(s). Personality Traits are a normal part of being a human being whether you are male or female. Assessment of any normal individual's personality involves assessing the degree he or she has or does not have of each of what are termed "the Big Five Personality Factor Models". These are:-1. Openness to experience.2. Conscientiousness.3. Extroversion.4. Agreeableness5. Emotional stability or Neurosis

Narcissistic women are often obsessed with themselves and often talk aout themselves. (Although, not all women who talk about themselves are narcissistic. They are probably unsure what to talk about and are trying to find a common point of interest by trying to realate with talking about something that happened to them, etc.) Easy-going women are down to earth and not stressed out by little problems.
