OK ON MY 98 AND I BET YOURSWILL WORK THE SAME. OPEN THE PASSENGER DOOR (EITHER ONE) THEN LOOK ON THE SIDE OF THE DOOR THAT HITS THE Jeep WHEN IT WHEN CLOSING THE DOOR. WHEN YOU LOOK THERE YOU SHOULD SEE A SMALL SWISH WHICH YOU CAN EITHER PUSH UP OR DOWN. THERE SHOULD ALSO BE A STICKER MARKING THIS, SAYING UP OR DOWN LOCKS..IM NOT FOR SURE BUT BY PLAYING WITH IT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO TELL...THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FETURES OF A JEEP...MY GRAND DAUGHTER WHO IS 4 WAS SO MAD WHEN SHE FOUND HER DOOR DIDT WORK AND OPEN LIKE MOM AND DADS :>} There should be a little lever style switch right where the door latch mechanism is

To engage or disengage the Child-Protection Door
Lock system
1. Open the rear door.
2. Insert the tip of the emergency key into the lock and
rotate to the LOCK or UNLOCK position.
In case you are not sure where to get the emergency key:
To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latch
at the top of the Key Fob sideways with your thumb and
then pull the key out with your other hand.
