Various analog to digital converters are available for this purpose. They are basically made up of operational amplifiers.

The other way is to convert the analog signal into samples. Then converting these samples into quantization levels. These quantization levels are then converted into 1s and 0s.

Analog data is an analog signal. There is no conversion required as the two names refer to the same type of signal.

Converters are available to convert digital signals to analog and from analog to digital.

There are quite a few ways to build a digital-to-analog converter (DAC or D/A). One of the more common circuits is the "R/2R" resistor ladder. It gets its name from its clever use of only two different resistor values, one twice the other. They are wired to give binary "weighting" to a set of parallel digital inputs. E.g, applying a 5V logic "high" to the most significant bit might cause 2.5V to appear on the output; applying a 5V "high" to the next significant bit will add 1.25V to the output, and so on. The number of resistors and parallel digital inputs determine the smallest voltage step and thus the resolution of the D/A.

Wikipedia has a good article titled "Resistor Ladder" that shows the circuit and how it works in more detail. Also see the article on Digital-to-Analog Converters for descriptions of other types of circuits. Each has advantages and disadvantages, e.g., one might be ideal for hi-fidelity audio in an inexpensive portable music player while another might provide the accuracy needed in a laboratory instrument.

All data in a computer is represented by bits. A bit can be either a 1 or a 0. Bits correspond with the amount of electrical charge in one RAM cell. A 1 means that a particular cell has a significant amount of charge, meaning it's "on". A 0 means that it has an insignificant charge or no charge at all, meaning it's "off". The state of a cell determines what electrical signal gets sent, making the computer do something. So, data is converted to electrical signals by means of bits that are either a 1 or a 0 that correspond with the amount of electrical charge in a RAM cell.

Digital data can exist in several forms. As a file, it will reside on a disc or in memory of some sort and as a stream, it will exist as a signal of some kind.

Therefore, digital signals are made up of digital data. They are simply data that are being moved from one location to another.

To convert file data to a digital signal, it is necessary for a process to be run that will take the data in a file and convert to a stream of data in the appropriate format.
