Remove drain plug from oil pan (lowest point of engine), while that's draining remove oil filter. Replace oil filter then replace drain plug after oil has completed draining. After everything is securely tightened add oil through the fill cap on the valve cover.

I have never worked on Suzuki, but have on several Kawasakis. There is usuallya bolt at the bottom/underneath of the crank case. It usually has a hole though the skid plating that you can access the bolt through. Loosen and take the bolt out and let it drain out. It is best if the oil is warm if possible. It will drain faster. Then if it has a oil filter then change that also. Then put the bolt back in and refill. Usually fills through the check location. Hope this helps. Good luck.

First find out how much oil you need, probably about 4 quarts and don't forget to buy a new oil filter as well. 2-make sure the car has been warmed up. Run it for about 15 minutes. 3-Jack up the car if necessary, make sure to use jack stands so the car doesn't fall on you. [You might not need to jack up the car because it's got a pretty high clearance.] 4-Use a cressent wrench to carefully loosen the plug on the oil pan, which will be located directly underneath the motor. It should be really obvious. [On a '97 it's right inside the right front tire and, no, you don't have to remove that big plastic shield.] Realize that the oil will be alittle warm and this can be a messy process so wear gloves. And maybe goggles. Once the plug has been pulled, let all of the oil drain out. 5-I like to take the time while the oil is draining to grab the new oil filter and pre-load it with new oil. This IS a step you NEED to take. Slowly pour in oil through the threaded end of the filter. It should take close to a full quart. It is a slow process because you will pour some in and need to let it settle down to the bottom, then continue. 6-The next step is to locate the oil filter on the engine block. If ou aren't shure where it is, you will need to look for a similar item to the new filter(obviously). It should be down low on the side of the engine. Sometimes these things will be rather difficult to remove because of expansion and contraction from the heat of the motor and the differing metals of the motor and the filter tend to wedge the little buggers in real tight. They make a tool that comes in handy for this. An oil filter wrench. After you remove the filter, it is sometimes good to pour some of the oil out to check for metal shavings. You will generally know if there is something that messed up before you ever change the oil but it's an easy step to prevent any more damage from being done. 7-Replace the new oil filter. Be sure that it goes on easy. In other words, DO NOT CROSS THREAD THE OIL FILTER!!!! It can happen pretty easily. A good way to prevent this is to spin the filter about a 1/4 turn backwords while it is up against the threads. You should feel the threads line up and then spin it in the correct direction to thread it on. Also, there is no need to overtighten the filter. Do not use the tool to retighten the filter. Hand tight is all you need, good and snug. 8-Back underneath. replace the oil pan plug. Again remember not to overtighten it. Use the wrench but only until it is also good and snug. 9- Now you can pull out the jackstands and start filling the engine with oil. The filler cap should be obvious. If you don't have a crappy, but clean funnel, you can cut the bottom off of an empty quart of oil. I usually keep one with a rag stuffed insde somewhere in the engine compatrment so if you need to check the oil you have rag to wipe the dipstick and you have a funnel for topping it off. Make sure you fill the engine completely but no more than the max fill line at the end of the dipstick. I suggest buying your oil from an auto parts store so they can tell you how much it holds and then you wont have to worry about it. I hope this takes care of it. It's kinda dumbed down and over explanatory only because I don't know your experience and I didn't want to leave anything out. (The oil that you put in the filter is included in the complete amount of oil in the vehicle. Don't add any more.) Good Luck! ------------------------------------- Update on May 3rd, 2009 This car takes about 4.4 Quarts of Oil (I changed my oil today and had to look through the car manual to see how much i needed). I have the 2003 Toyota Rav4 Front wheel drive. You dont really need to pour the oil directly into the new filter as suggested above, and you don't need to run the car for 15minutes before changing. If anything, running the car for that long may get the oil hot enough to irritate or burn your skin if you get oil on you. If you simply change the oil a few hours after driving it, the oil should be luke-warm to the touch. Everything else mentioned above is great advice!

The same way you change the oil in any car. Drain the oil from the oil pan by removing the oil drain plug, remove the filter, apple oil to the new filter gasket, and install the new filter. Replace the oil pan drain plug, then pour in the correct amount of the correct weight oil. Recycle to old used oil and filter.

There is a oil pressure switch or sensor located next to the oil filter in your 1997 Nissan sentra gxe 16l that appears to be leaking oil what is this part and how do you replace it?

well you said it. Oil pressure switch or oil pressure sending unit.most cars have both.If it has one wire it is an oil pressure sending unit. if it has a plug with 2 or more wires it is an oil pressure switch and sends a signal to the onboard computer. remove the wire either a nut or usually a plug.some sending units take a special socket but if you can get a wrench on it turn it counter clock wise and unscrew it. when you get the new one it will have a red material on the threads, this is a sealant.thread the new switch snug and put you plug back on.

It is very important to change PCV valve. If valve is old it will plug or seize. This will cause oil pressure to rise and may cause leaks. Most likely the valve cover gaskets will leak if PCV valve is plugged.
