I can tell you from my experience that this can be a bit difficult, especilly where rust is around. 1st, there may be Loctite on the 3 bolts in the back of the bearing assembly. I suggest torching them first! Loosen them up a bit. You can use a 3 jaw puller on the axle, which I tried the first time, but be prepared for a FIGHT. After i had replaced the first one, i spoke to my mechanic friend regarding this and he says that he used a small sledge hammer and pounds the axle until it starts to go, then finish with the puller. I did it this way on the second one and it was much faster.

The wheel bearings are ball-in-cage type bearings that are an integral part of the hub-and-bearing assembly which must be replaced as a unit. If rwd: maybe. The front wheel bearings are taper bearings held in place by a nut with cotter pin. The rear rear wheel bearings (axle bearings) are in fact pressed into the axle tube.
