You can't just become emo. It's something you choose as a fashion style or a lifestyle, and emo means different things to different people. Many people falsely assume that all emo individuals are depressed, suicidal, or self-mutilaters.
Looking emo or acting emo may be a conscious choice, and does not always include dark or depressing personalities. For some, emo is just a preferred genre of music, and emo can mean a lot of different things. For instance, in Japanese, 'Emo' means potato.

∙ 12y agoEmo is not a fasion its a life style. really it isn't WOE IS ME allll the time. we live out our emotions in any way possable. Emo's are REALLY into music. For instance i sing. LAcey molsey is my hero, but you don't have to be a singer. Also emo's don't pick out there clothes before hand (if they feel like it though they can) they where out their emotions. EX, a girls friend commit sucide. For a while she word a plain black tee and skinny jeans with his name writed all over tham in white out. If im in a good mood i were brighter colors like lime green, and help tone it down with some black, ect., ect. NOT ALL EMOS SLIT THEIR WRIST! as i said its not WOE IS ME all the time! It's more of a coltural thing to do so. So don't feel all this presure to slit. I surely don't when im sad or angry i write about it. Mainly in lyrics or in poems
