Turn engine over using center bolt on harmonic balancer or u can bump the starter. Take number 1 cylinder spark plug out and then u stick screw driver in plughole untilthe piston comes to the furthest point up and then u drop your distributer in with the rotor button facing number 1 on the cap. There is two points that are the same in the motor so make sure the intake valve is open it shut line up with the intake runner.

How do you remove the distributor drive shaft on a 1972 beetle?

The distributor is a single unit. Set the engine to top dead center. Make a witness mark on the distributor body and the engine case to reassemble and re-align the unit. Remove the distributor clamp holding the distributor in place. Remove and mark the wires. Pull the distributor straight up and out of the engine case. The shaft is keyed and should be in the body of the distributor. Reassembly is the reverse procedure.

How do you set the timing on a 1984 Nissan Z24 truck?

the oil pump is synchronized with the distributor by way of a shaft between the two. It's possible to misalign the shaft (oil thrower) between the two and get exact opposite timing. try removing the covers, align the timing marks and set at TDC, then align the shaft by moving the pump and the distributor together until they slide toward each other and fit flush against the engine. Reassemble and rotate the distributor to set the timing.

Does the magnet on the distributor shaft slide off?

The distributor will need to be removed. The magnet is permanently attached to the distributor shaft and the shaft is held in place by a roll-pin thatpasses through the distributor drive gear on the bottom side of the distributor. Magnet on top, gear down in the engine, distributor shaft and housing in the middle.

Can the timing gear that you see when you remove the distributor on a 1969 350 Chevy engine be pulled out while removing the distributor and change the position of the gear that drives the distributor?

There is a gear on the distributor shaft and a gear on the end of the camshaft that it engages with. The gear on the camshaft cannot be removed as it is part of the camshaft. The gear on the distributor shaft can be removed if it is worn; however, this is rare. These two gears must be in proper mesh for the engine to run; one cog off and it will not start. If you need further assistance google ' finding top dead center on a 350 chevy'.

How to align distributor shaft into camshaft of 86 Toyota Celica?

If you've marked it properly, just align it with your marks. This will only take a few seconds. If, however, you failed to think about what you were doing during disassembly: -Turn the engine to cylinder #1 TDC on compression stroke. -Remove distributor cap. -Turn the distributor rotor to point at the #1 terminal on the inside of the cap. -Set the distributor in place and tighten it down. -Reassemble everything else required to run the engine. -Adjust spark timing.
