Its all basically to do with gravational force. The sun keeps all the planets and

astroides orbiting and the planets keep the moons orbiting and the moon(s) keep

a planet rotating.

Another contributor's comment:

Moons have nothing to do with a planet's rotation. Mercury and Venus,

for example, carry on a fine rotation performance without any moons.
