Sponges do not give birth. The only animals who give birth to live young are mammals. Sponges reproduce by releasing sperm or eggs into the sea. The sperm and eggs just mix up in the water and form tiny sponges. The "babies" float around until they land, where they grow into new sponges. Some sponges can also form a "bud" that grows into a new sponge without any sex involved.

Sponges have three asexual methods of reproduction: after fragmentation; by budding; and by producing gemmules. Most sponges are hermaphrodites (function as both sexes simultaneously), although sponges have nogonads (reproductive organs)

All sponges mostly reproduce asexually. They grow develop as buds from the parent sponge, which consequently forms a complete mature sponge later. Hence, through budding, they go on increasing in size, and spreading over larger areas.
