Toads require at least 3 inches of substrate for burrowing, a shallow dish of water for soaking, a hideout, plant life and live insects. If you go to the pet store the employees can help you purchase the best substrate and supplies, including boxed crickets.

Horned Toads are cold-blooded animals. This means that their blood is heated by the sun, not by their own bodies. They have to sit in the sun to stay warm. Their bodies don't overheat as easily as ours, mammals, do.

Can fire belly toads live with fish?

Yes IF - you have enough water so the toxins from the toads don't kill them - the fish can survive in the same temperature range as the toads - the fish are going to eat or nip at the toads -the poison will not kill or make the other fish ill at contact such as a healthy Betta fish. Lots of people keep feeder guppies with their toads. Sometimes the toads catch them. But is very rare. Mine didn't catch them.
