Paraguay is a slightly larger country located directly north of Uruguay. Both countries are located in south-central South America. 1. Paraguay is poorer & has no sea port. Uruguay has almost five times more GDP per capita than Paraguay (10k to 2,5k US dollars per year, aprox). 2. Uruguay's mediterranean to continental climate makes it far more suitable for producing wine than Paraguay's tropical to subtropical. 3. The overwhealming majority of Uruguayans descend from immigrants from Italy and Spain (strong wine drinking countries), while Paraguayans are mostly a mix of many centuries between Europeans and Guaraní Indians.

Spanish is spoken in Uruguay. If you speak Spanish you will understand the people in Uruguay. There are some local words that may differ from other Spanish speaking countries but they certainly mean no barrier to communication if you speak any other variation of Spanish.
