In the Mayan cities their would be a large rectangle "pit" one each end there is a circle sticking out of the side and at one end would be a line. Anyone could play men or women as long as there was 11 players. The ball was made out of tree gum and weighted about 10-15 kilos and was solid. This is why the players had to wear a padded belt to try and protect their hips. The aim of the game was to get the ball (without using your hands) through the side circle, this circle was elevated high off the ground so the game was a bit difficult. The teams had until the sun reached the line on the opposite side of the "pit". The winning team on special occasions would have the honor of being sacrificed to the Gods, while the losing team had to be shamed by not having this honor.

I hope this helps

you were not allowed to touch the ball with your hands and feet and the goal was to get a rubber ball through the hoops. It was played with six people on each side.
