Japan was very harsh towards the people in the territories that it occupied. It committed many instances of genocide, murder, rape, starvation, theft, destruction, brutality, etc. It was often worse than how Nazi Germany treated the people in occupied western Europe. Of course Nazi Germany's treatment of all Jews and those peoples from eastern Europe (poles & Slavs) is unequalled in modern times.
